BLAM Chat Basics

BLAM! Chat is a Google Chat Space designed for Labwide communication. There are three important things you need to know that are different from the way you may normally use Google Chat.

1. Finding BLAM Chat

BLAM Chat is a Google Chat Space

You can click here to get to BLAM Chat.   Or, from your chat.google.com, click the triangle next to the word Spaces to expand the Spaces list, then find "Browse More Spaces" and search for BLAM! Berkeley Lab AI Mastery.  Once you join the space, you'll find it in your spaces list at the bottom left corner of Gmail when you have the Chat panel open.

2. Use Threads!

Keep The Chat Organized with Threads

When lots of people use a space for many different conversations, it's important to use threads to keep things organized.

Find the thread you want to read or reply to and click the number of replies.   This will open a window on the right where you can read the entire thread and reply.

Learn more about threads from Google.

3. Adjust your notices.

Change your notifications or you'll be overwhelmed by all the beeps!

Click the Space Name header and select Notifications.

You'll see the Notifications menu.   You'll probably want to select anything but "All".   If you select For you, or None, remember to come visit the Chat room each week - you won't receive any chat notifications along the way.
