Welcome to Berkeley Lab AI Mastery 2025

BLAM! (Berkeley Lab AI Mastery) was a Labwide 6-week effort to build literacy, skills, and interest in AI tools, primarily oriented towards day to day administration, not applied science use cases.  Each week  there were assigned challenges, webinars, reading, and videos to help people at various skill levels learn more about using modern AI tools in fun and engaging ways.  Chat rooms were also  used to share accomplishments, ask questions, and keep the dialog going.

Here are the 2025 BLAM weekly breakdowns

Week 1 - Understanding AI and Its Everyday Applications: Learn what AI is, why it’s important, and how it can save time and enhance productivity at work. By the end of this week, you’ll understand the basic concepts of AI and identify ways it can assist you in daily tasks.

Week 2 - Mastering the Art of Asking AI the Right Questions: Learn how to craft effective prompts to get accurate and relevant results from AI tools. By the end of this week, you’ll understand prompt engineering techniques to make AI more effective for your needs.

Week 3 - Leveraging Generative AI for Workplace Efficiency: Understand how generative AI can streamline tasks such as drafting documents, creating templates, and enhancing collaboration. By the end of this week, you’ll feel confident using AI to create professional outputs.

Week 4: Using multi-modal AI: Discover how AI can assist in analyzing data, finding patterns, and creating insights. By the end of this week, you’ll know how to use AI tools to manage data more efficiently and when to use multi-modal AI in your work.

Week 5 - Responsible AI Practices in the Workplace: Now that you’ve learned about all the cool things you can do with AI, it’s time to add the essential layer of compliance. This week we’ll learn about ethical considerations, biases, and responsible use of AI. Humans understand context much better, which is why all content created by AI must be reviewed and vetted. By the end of this week, you’ll be equipped to use AI responsibly and create a team AI ethics guide.

Week 6 - Imagining the Future of Work with AI at the Lab and Beyond: As we close out the last week of BLAM, let’s open the conversation around the future of AI. This week we’ll explore emerging AI trends and identify opportunities for AI to transform workflows. By the end of this week, you’ll have insights and ideas for using AI to enhance your role or team processes.
